Well, I enjoyed the game well enough. It's buggy, but far from a chugging mass of gamebreakers. The story is of familiar archetypes, but no more than your average JRPG. Instead of "kid hero and mysterious pendant", it's "space marine and coming invasion". If anything, it was probably too short and a bit cookie cutter with locations.
"Mass Effect seems to often be left off the list when talking about RPG's"
Because this article (I guess) o...
I do most of my gaming on the PC.
Frankly, the PC and PS3's "free" net is more in line with what I'm used to. Mind, I'd kept a gold subscription active about three years after my initial receipt of my 360 (as a gift). After a while I realized my money only covers multiplayer since I didn't really use the other pay features. And since PC and 360 share so many titles, I feel as if I've missed out on very little avoiding XBL altogether.
Happy Birthday.
I wonder if they have any plans to upgrade the game? The graphics and features were more than a little dated even in 2002. Or maybe Rapture is SE's new MMO fascination.. *shrug*
Right. None of this info is new. Just the author expanding upon previously released information with a shamelessly misleading title. I'm looking forward to this game as well, but this article isn't showing anything you haven't seen before, years ago. You can't blame people for being unimpressed when you try to hype a game on years old information.
Yeah, I figured BigPark wouldn't impress right off. MS seems to want to push the service, not the game.
I don't think it's anything as drastic as skewing E3 towards newbie gamers, but it's hard to remain optimistic. Not while their competitor announces new title after new title in more traditional genres. As a 360 owner, I could use some reassurance, preferably without waiting a month.
Edit: I'm not saying the game won't be any good since it isn't out, of course.
What happened to kewlkat's original comment?
It seemed very objective and relevant to the subject. Now deleted? :s
Edit: Yeah, I'm with you kewl, I thought your initial comment was pretty insightful. Wonder why it was deleted?
Edit: Cool, it's back. Way to go, mods.
Not hating. Just telling it like it is.
MS has had such a "bright outlook" in Japan for years now but can't seem to achieve lasting success. PR only goes so far. At some point you've got to meet the burden of proof.
I thought FFX ended wonderfully. Everything in that game was based on sacrifice so the ending just felt "right" thematically, even if it was very sad.
I did not cry, although there was something bothersome in my eye most of the time.
These sites really need to stop looking at N4G as representative of the gaming community. It's just a small part of the whole. Our opinions here certainly don't represent the state of gaming everywhere.
Too true. And as much as people debate FF in hindsight, they (particularly VII) brought JRPGs to the forefront almost single-handedly. Still a massive accomplishment.
I wonder what game would have done that if FF hadn't made it. I doubt the formulaic DQ could have. Too niche imo. Maybe Persona?
FFIX was a masterpiece of FFs. I've talked to a lot of people who passed it over because of the art style. I didn't like the deformed style either, but the meat of the game is top shelf material. Some say the last good FF SE/Square made... Ok that's a little overboard imo, but it's certainly one of greatest.
@Ghost
Not really. This looks like another game altogether. OXM's preview game (the same as the mystery site) had mechs and futuristic elements. This looks to be a separate new title based in fantasy. Might turn out that both are exclusive to different platforms.
A bit misleading, that title. I thought KZ2 hit 1.5M in Japan alone, which would have been in-freaking-credible.
My favourite film ever made bar none.
Those Bladerunner screens are the coolest thing I've seen in a while. A new Bladerunner game would be frickin'...well, the excited kid in me says "WEEEEEE!" but the tempered adult remembers how much movie games tend to suck regardless of the uber graphics.
Other than the elevators and a few bugs, what was so bad about Mass Effect?
The DS numbers for CW aren't great, but I don't think it's a sign of anything other than appealing to the wrong market.
IV disappointed me a bit. The specific failings are obvious for anyone who played San Andreas then IV. I hope GTA IV is the GTA III of current gen. Meaning maybe future titles could expand beyond IV's limits similar to how last gen's GTAs grew bigger and better with each release.
Neutrality says, we'll see. It's still pretty early in the year. KZ2 will probably make for a strong contender though.
It's in public beta. You won't be advised to switch till the official release.
"This kinda thing is gonna blow up in Nintendo's face."
*giggle*
Seriously, this is probably expected any time you give players dev-like power. I'm sure it will be heavily moderated by Nintendo wherever it connects with community.
Tbh, I dunno what's up with the Republic Army. They're barely mentioned throughout the franchise. I don't think it's out of line to have strike teams and the like. Can't fight a war with absolutely no ground forces.
